History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time:

Birth to Hogwarts

Jacob Alan Summers was born in Norwich to parents Mary, a primary school teacher, and John, a professor of Latin and Ancient Greek. Though both his parents are wizards and attended Hogwarts, they chose to live primarily in the muggle world after finishing, especially with the threat of the Dark Lord looming over their little family. After he was vanquished, they had already made a neat little home for themselves and saw no reason to leave it.

That being said, Mary and John were liberal with their use of magic in their private home, using it as both babysitter and entertainer for their young son, Jake, as he became to be known. They were indulgent towards him, especially because he was the end result of years of trying to get pregnant. Although never explicitly said, both his parents fully expected him to go to Hogwarts. There was much celebration when he received his letter. They went out for dinner and ice cream

Hogwarts

September 1st, 1989, Jake was sorted into Hufflepuff House. While he might have originally questioned his placement into Helga's house, he found acceptance and love there. One of the most defining moments of his childhood was coming back from school during his Christmas break and realizing how much his parents used magic in their everyday lives outside of the house. His mother had anti-cheating spells all around her classroom and his father often consulted with charmed portraits of influential Roman figures. This early realization caused Jake to adopt that attitude that magic was a tool to fool the muggles and make his life easier.

The summer after his first year, his parents informed him that his mother was pregnant. His little sister, Samantha was born in October of his second year. When he first clapped eyes on her during that Christmas break, it was mutual love at first sight. Jake wasn't an exceptional student, though he worked hard. One highlight of his school career was when he tried to fool the age line and enter his name into the Goblet of Fire in his sixth year by taking an aging potion, but was sent to the hospital wing with a beard instead. He was quite proud when one of his den mates and close friends, Cedric Diggory, was picked to be the Hogwarts Champion and was quite put out on Ced's behalf when Harry Potter's name was called out as well. He took his friend's supposed death rather hard.

After Hogwarts

Part of his seventh year was spent in a daze, especially after loosing a friend. He remained angry for a long time, getting the hell out of dodge as soon as he could, resettling with his parents in Las Vegas in the summer of 1996 for the duration of the Second War. With his parents' urging, he went to school part time, helping take care of his sister, while also working in the kitchen of one of the casinos. It is in those kitchen where he first started to learn how to gamble and gamble well. It was at this time he also started to use magic to his advantage, picking up the basics of occulemency and legilimency as tools to work the system. While he didn't win every hand, lest people become suspicious, he won more than enough to take Samantha to Disney Land for her seventh birthday. (And yes, he rode on Dumbo and he enjoyed it.)

Jake preferred gambling with wizards, but since he didn't know of any in the States personally and because it was easier to win against them, he usually played with muggles. Poker was his game, taught to him by hardened line cooks and the house gamblers. By the time he was twenty one he had been thrown out of a few of the larger casinos, for they had wizards on staff who had caught onto his tricks. The smaller casinos didn't have the same resources, which meant more money in his pocket. Of course, since muggles were easy targets, they got boring real fast and Jake needed to find something else to occupy his time. He found that diversion the the father of one of his sister's friends.

Norman Burke had been jumping on the house flipping trend, but needed someone to do all of his dirty work and be his errant boy. Jake fit the bill to a t. Taking the chance, after all, house flipping had no guarantee, Jake quit both school and his job at the casino, he went to work under Burke for a percentage of the profits. He took out walls, put in new ones, painted, and laid tile. For the first time in his life, Jake discovered that he liked the feeling of dirt under his finger nails. The situation worked for Burke, especially when the young man was able to complete so much work without having to hire all the outside laborers. Within seven flips, they were splitting the profits 40-60. By the time Jake had moved back to England to reunite with his family in late 2004, (his parents had moved back in time for Sam to be eligible for Hogwarts) he had a nice nest egg on which to invest.

Jake originally bought his house, 19 Camden Crescent, intending to flip it like all the other houses he had done in the States, content to still live at home with his parents. What he didn't realize however, was that he would fall in love with the building. he's slowly, but surely renovating the house, using as little magic as possible. Jake's not looking to make his house a showcase for the eighteenth century, but he does want to highlight the refined beauty. The house is under a constant state of renovation and he's always on the look out for the perfect new piece.
